Our Honoured Volunteers - A Program of Recognition for two years - not to be forgotten                        2004                2003
Robbie Robson
It is a pleasure to be honoring Robbie Robson as Volunteer of the month.  Robbie has been on the Executive Board for a long time and never seems to be eligible for acknowledgment of all his good works.  He has had so many jobs in the Centre I would not have enough paper or ink to list it all.  Just to name a few things he has done in the past: Chairman of bus committee, works with all the exercise groups, works on the desk and even the bar on occasion.  Robbie gives a lot of personal service to many of our members of which I am sure he never gets noticed for.  Today we salute you Robbie and Thank you for and I quote " For absolute dedication to the Centre and its membership for God knows how many years"!
Bill Read
Once again Bill has been chosen as  volunteer of the month. Bill must be a very good worker as he was honoured last April for his good deeds.

Bill helps out in our kitchen.  He even does some things that are over and above his  regular duties.  Again Bill we commend you and thanks a bunch for all your hard work.
JEAN GRIFFITHS
It is a pleasure for me to write about this lady.  Jean is a bubbly lady who loves to square dance, play at computing and with all her activities she finds time to do her share of work at the centre.  You sometimes find her at the Friendship Hour or the Potluck dinners serving up the goodies and bringing in the table decorations (which she hand crafts herself).  Thank you Jean from all of us who benefit from your being a wonderful volunteer.
DECEMBER                      NOVEMBER                                 OCTOBER
 Marjorie Stanhope
Marjorie Stanhope has been a member of the centre for a number of years and no stranger to the volunteer list.  Mrs. Stanhope has entertained the members at Potluck dinners and just this summer she organized a group from the Exercise classes and the square dancers who cleaned every chair in the centre.  It was a dirty job on a very hot day.  Thank you Marg. for all your hard work.
GWENDA THAIN
It is nice to hear that Gwenda has been chosen as the volunteer for the month of August.  Gwenda has been volunteering at the centre for a number of years and is well known in the bridge circles.  She calls all the bridge group her children and treats us all to cakes and cookies even picks up our dirty cups and washes them.  Gwenda also does a lot of security for the building and for that service we are truly grateful to her.  Thank You Gwenda for all your hard work it has not been overlooked by your peers at the centre.
Doug Third
.It is a pleasure to see Doug chosen as the volunteer of the month.  Doug has been around the Centre for a very long time. He is the type of member who is always quietly going about his volunteer job in our little library and sorting through the books keeping them current.  Doug has often been known to lead the group in song at the potlucks or friendship hour.  I think the most commendable thing Doug does as a volunteer for our members is his behind the scenes work of taking the ill to Dr. appointments over in the city and his trips up to Shornecliffe to visit with our elderly members and helping to bring them to the Centre for special occasions.  Thank you Doug your special work has not gone un-noticed by your friends at the Centre.

THERESA ALLEN
It is with much pleasure to announce in  the newsletter that Theresa Allen has been chosen by her peers as the volunteer of the month.  She is a very talented and industrious person.  Theresa can be seen doing duties in the kitchen, at the front desk, setting up tables for potluck dinners.  She is also an artist and does some wonderful paintings for us and donates them to the centre to be raffled or given as prizes.  She is a great help to Ruth at the potluck dinners she contributes her artistic savvy to the  table décor.  *****THANK YOU! Theresa you are very much appreciated as a Seniors' volunteer.
Lewine Hughes
Lewine Hughes comes to our Senior Centre from North Vancouver.  I like to think that we stole her from Silver Harbour Senior Centre.  Lewine commuted from Vancouver to here on a regular basis for almost a year.  It was finally suggested to her that she do like everyone else.  Live here and commute to the city.  She finally moved herself over here and has settled in a nice part of town.  Close enough that she can get to the Seniors to volunteer.  Lewine is seen volunteering in the kitchen and on the desk in the lobby.  I even saw her volunteering at the Friendship Hour wearing a RED HAT!.  Thank you Lewine your generosity is much appreciated.
Bill Read
This months volunteer is fairly new to the Sechelt Centre.  Bill  and his wife Bev. come to us from North Vancouver.  Bill helps with all the tasks that is given him to do in our kitchen.  He even does some things that are over and above his  regular duties.  We are very grateful to Bill and all his hard work and hope he continues to volunteer.  Most of all Bill we want to say Thank You and we also want you to enjoy yourself here at the Centre.
MARCH                                        FEBRUARY                                        JANUARY
Alice Matthaus
I am pleased to say that Alice Matthaus has been named volunteer for the month of March. She has held this title on another occasion but Alice is always doing special things and it has not gone un-noticed.
Alice has now taken over the job of washing the kitchen laundry.  She is quite often seen setting tables for the potluck dinners  When she isn't looking after her grandchildren she fills in vacant spots in the kitchen wherever she is needed and is always smiling and seems happy to be doing.
Barbara Whistler
Barbara earned her wings this month. She has truly been the office angel flitting in and out getting the 2003 Annual Report booklet compiled.  Barbara has been our secretary and has offered on many occasions to take the minutes of the meetings when the regulars are not able to make it.  Her patience and help with ticket sales for the Xmas and New Years lunches have also been a blessing.
Thank You, Barbara
your good work has not gone unnoticed.
JOHN KROEKER
John was born in a log cabin in Northern Saskatchewan.  He talks of the hard life his parents endured and says we are inclined to be softies today.  He had always wanted to be a farmer like his father but fate intervened.  John has many interests.  He has a pilot's license and owned a plane at one time. He does beautiful wood carving.  He has canoed the Bowron Lakes five times and camped in many places throughout British Columbia.  He has worked in Africa, France, the United States and Canada installing sawmill equipment.  He and his wife moved to Sechelt from Coquitlam a little over a year ago and the Seniors Centre has benefited from his expertise with electrical equipment.  You can spot John and Louise enjoying fish and chips most Fridays.

Bob D'Arcy
Bob D'Arcy  has been selected for December's volunteer of the month.  Bob called into the Seniors one day and offered to be a volunteer Web Master as his expertise was in constructing web sites.  It has been a wish of the computer folks to have our very own site.  After receiving approval from the membership and Board of Directors we took Bob at his word and within a week we were www.http://secheltseniors.com  All thanks go to Bob for his patience getting it going.
Elsie Richards
Elsie has been chosen as volunteer of the month for all her work with the craft projects.  Elsie makes a lot of those special carpet bags that you see on sale in the window.  Most of all Elsie deserves a big star for the patience and hard work she puts in adding up all the grocery slips for the coffee fund.  Thank you Elsie. Your efforts are very much appreciated.
